Alkota Expands South Dakota Facilities

After years of increased sales it has become obvious that our existing facilities are limiting our ability to handle growing inventory and production needs. This has prompted us to construct a new storage building on our current property in Alcester, South Dakota.
The project consists of two main additions: 1.) a steel storage building and 2.) an annex to connect this new structure with our existing manufacturing plant.
STORAGE BUILDING
Manufactured by Sentinel, this steel building will be located on the lot north of our current corporate office building. It will be 22’ from the manufacturing facility. The highest point of the new building will be on the east, and will be higher than the peak of the manufacturing building. The building was designed this way for ease of permanently adjoining the two buildings, should that ever occur.
- 50’ x 120’
- 20’ sidewalls
- Single slope roof
- The west end will be approximately 12’ above the foundation, somewhat comparable with the office
- Heated, insulated and lined on the inside
- Water will be available in the building
- Floor drains in both aisles on the east side
- Coloring will blend with the office building
ANNEX
The annex will basically consist of doors from the west, north and south and provide an under roof “Z” type of access between the new storage building and the manufacturing plant. The alley under the annex still has utilities and must remain accessible, should a problem occur.

- Sidewalls approximately the same height as the manufacturing plant.
- Single slope roof to provide maximum height for overhead doors.
The plan for the new building is for storage of fabricated steel. The sheet metal tubs will be stored on the north wall with overflow (if necessary) on the south side of the north aisle. The center aisle will have a double set of pallet racks and the south wall will have pallet racks as well. Frames, sheet metal pallets, heads, as well as other items will fill in the spaces.
Currently all utilities have been installed or relocated underground, drains are in place, and the floor has been poured. Now that the floor is in place, construction will begin in the very near future.
