Mobile Solutions - Part 4: Custom Municipal Trailers
4/17/2007 | Denene Haynie
Last week I showed you some impressive trailers engineered for military customers. However, those unique systems represent only a tiny fraction of the custom units we design and fabricate each year. Many of our custom units are built for use here in the United States by maintenance crews, custom cleaning operations, and other customers who need to take a powerful cleaning system on the road.
This week I have chosen three systems designed for municipal customers. As you will see they are in use all over the country and again include a great mix of designs and features. All are good looking systems that were built to detailed customer specifications.
KANSAS DOT TRAILER
Engineered to meet the specifications of the Kansas DOT, this trailer has a removable skid design. The cleaning system can easily be removed from the trailer and mounted on a flat bed with a forklift. The customer is very happy with this trailer. Some of the features include:
- 3500# straight axle with electric brakes
- Rechargeable breakaway system
- 500# jack with wheel
- Lunette eye hitch with adjustable bracket to match various hitch heights
- Sand hopper for sand blasting graffiti
- Hose reel
- Powder coated for durable finish
CITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE TRAILER
Designed with weather in mind, this fantastic tandem trailer was engineered for the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A rain roof over the entire trailer offers protection from the elements, and the coil on the machine has an exhaust extension with a rain cap. An amber strobe beacon and directional arrow light offer visibility and safety to the machine operators while the unit is parked along a roadway or in a construction area. The trailer has a unique blue powder coat finish and custom canvas curtains for added protection when being towed or stored.
This unit was built in September of 2003 and again in September of 2006.
- Tandem drop axles with surge brakes and actuator
- Adjustable lunette eye hitch
- 1000# swing-up swivel jack with wheel
- Rain roof with drip edge
- Amber strobe beacon and directional arrow lights
- 330 gallon water tank with 8" lid and rim vented, in cage
- 2 hose reels with hose assemblies
- Chemical/detergent rack
- Powder coated blue for durable finish
- Snap-on canvas curtains around the entire trailer
LOS ANGELES COUNTY SKID
Although not a trailer, this unique skid system was designed for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. It was specifically engineered to be lifted by lift eyes on the four corners and mounted on a flat bed truck. The customer intended these units to be used for cleaning buses, bus stops, and area transit sites. It is a rugged unit with heavy-duty construction and great features for its intended purpose. Seven of these units were built and delivered to the customer.
- Overall Size: 77" x 133.5"
- 2" x 3" tubular 11 gauge frame with 3" x 3" x 3/16" center beam
- Heavy lifting eyes on all four corners
- 2-230 gallon water tanks plumbed together with 8" lid and rim vented, in cage
- 1 high pressure hose reel with 300 feet of 3/8" R2 4000 psi hose
- 1 inlet hose reel with 100 feet of 3/4" water hose and auto fill
- Powder coated for durable finish
These three units alone present a fantastic mix of custom designs and features, and hopefully they show you our ability to design, engineer, and fabricate almost any mobile solution you can dream up.
Still not convinced? Well then join us again next week as this article series covers another round of custom mobile solutions, including one of the largest and most complex trailers we have built!
