The Alkota family extends our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the brave men and women of our armed forces as they defend our nation's freedom. Many of these troops have voluntarily joined our armed forces out of love for our country and our way of life, and are now fighting to ensure that our liberty will be protected.

Alkota would like to recognize our own electrical engineer Jay Hallaway, who was called into active duty in early January 2003. Jay has been a member of the Army National Guard for 23 years, currently serving as Senior Food Operations Sergeant with the 727th Tranportation Company. His unit specializes in "Palletized Loading System" (PLS) equipment that can quickly transport shipping containers and supplies to the battle field.

Following two weeks of training and preparation here in South Dakota, the 727th relocated to Fort Carson, Colorado. Fort Carson was the mobilization site for the unit, which underwent additional training and equipment evaluation before being fully deployed. The 727th was stationed at a base in the gulf region for a full year.

Jay is happy to be home with his wife Cherilyn and two little girls, Jackie (4 years) and Elizabeth (20 months). Jay was also missed by his friends and family here at Alkota where he has been an electrical engineer since 1987.
